Join Ontario Society of Artist members Kari Serrao (painter, oil and encaustic) and Lori Ryerson (contemporary art photographer) for an end of year show and sale.

Even though their two art practises are in completely different disciplines, Lori and Kari often find themselves on common ground when it comes to subject matter. The real life versions of Kari’s anthropomorphic animals have a way of also showing up in Lori’s quirky takes from her travels to out of the way destinations such as Death Valley or the Antarctic.

Both artists have long admired the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. This other side of their artwork shows up in a selection of curated floral interpretations: Lori’s recent exploration of abstracts based in neighbourhood gardens pair brilliantly with Kari’s large scale oil work showcasing peonies.

An assortment of sizes and styles of both their works will be available for purchase. Wrap up your holiday shopping with art this year!

Born in Toronto in 1936, James MacDougall is a self-taught and educated visual artist based in Stratford since 2004. His interest and engagement with visual art has been a lifelong passion and one that has run parallel to an influential and international career as a medical doctor.

Graduating from University of Toronto Medical School in 1960, James went on to a post-graduate residency at the Montreal General Hospital until 1966.  In 1965 he was appointed the accompanying physician for the Eastern Division of the Alpine Club's Baffin Island climbing expedition.  During the month-long expedition he shared a tent with A.Y. Jackson who was a club member but no longer participating in the climbing activities.  The two became friends and spent time painting together.  Later, A.Y. Jackson would invite MacDougall to contribute 15 paintings for exhibition alongside Jackson at his dealer, Alan Klinkoff Gallery in Montreal.

Through a CIDA-McGill project, MacDougall was seconded to the University of Nairobi, Kenya Medical School as an assistant professor initially from 1968 to 1970. He married his life-long companion, Connie Kinnear in 1968. He returned to Canada and the UK for further work and training, but then resumed his position in Kenya in 1972 through the end of 1981.

In 1982 James retired from medicine to pursue his artistic interests.  Gallery Stratford is proud and honoured to present this retrospective exhibition of works by James MacDougall.
