The Passing of Brigitte Schreyer, OSA Life Member

We regretfully announce the passing of Brigitte Schreyer. Artist, adventurer, actress, hairdresser, wife, and mother. Brigitte passed away peacefully in her home with her husband Klaus, and her two children, Carmen and Derek, by her side; Fred Astaire singing softly in the background. We are honoured to have had Brigitte as part of the OSA membership since 1990. We wish her family, friends and colleagues our deepest condolences.

Brigitte Schreyer was born, raised and educated in Germany. She immigrated to Canada in 1960, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and in 1967 became a Canadian citizen.

Brigitte began painting seriously after moving to Ontario in 1972. She studied Art History at Sheridan College of Applied Art and Technology, Oakville, ON, as well as a variety of painting media with various accomplished Canadian and American artists.

Since her introduction to watercolour, this medium held an all absorbing fascination and challenge for Brigitte and she refined a style of her own. Her favourite mediums were transparent watercolour and oil painting, but she was also interested in acrylic/mixed media.

Brigitte was an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, the Polar Artists Group, the Society of Canadian Artists and a Life Member of the Ontario Society of Artists. She held numerous solo and group exhibitions and her work is in many corporate and private collections throughout North America and Europe.
