This year “JUST BE” ART EXHIBITION welcomes you to celebrate our history, diversity and courage through York Pride’s 20th Anniversary. It’s our pleasure to invite 2SLGBTQ+ artists and allies of York Region and beyond to share their voices, stories and perspectives through visual art reflecting on what this milestone means to them and their community.
York Pride shines a light on human diversity within York Region through its annual events and initiatives, providing residents with opportunities to express and celebrate their sexualities and gender identities. Together, York Pride and the Town of Newmarket aim to foster and support living free of fear and discrimination. However, homophobia and lack of acceptance remains a reality for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This exhibition will provide a platform for these unique voices to be heard. The progressions, achievements and setbacks, faced in the last 20 years and before, play an important part in our collective history and personal narratives. We eagerly await the many contributions the 2SLGBTQ+ community will make in the next 20 years!
Exhibition will run from May 15 to June 20, 2020

Cost: No fee for entry
Eligibility: 2SLGBTQ +/ allied emerging or established artists and makers are invited to apply. Open to York Region residents and beyond. Each applicant can submit up to two (2) pieces of artwork in any medium for consideration. All mediums of art are eligible (e.g. photography, painting, sculpture, multimedia, video, etc.) For individuals under the age of 18 years, parental/guardian contact information is required to enter.
