The portrait of “Maire Kearns” started as a drawing from a three hour pose. I really liked drawing her and from the photograph taken during the pose I did a larger scale painting.
“Maire Kearns” has won Mary Pratt award from Society of Canadian Artists 52nd Open International Juried Exhibition in 2020.
I am graduate of Ontario College of Art and Design in 1990. In my last year at OCADU, I was in the Off Campus program at Florence, Italy. My main area of study was figure drawing under Richard Robertson.
For several years after graduating from the OCADU I was active with Green Thumb Artist Collective and Plurals Artist Collective and had numerous exhibitions and installations around Toronto area including Metro Hall and Dufferin Mall.
I took a break from art for many years to work in pharmacy and getting licensed as a Registered PharmacyTechnician. I have restarted painting in 2014. I began a series of paintings of portraits with watercolour and acrylic and oil. In 2017 I started entering juried shows and have been accepted in to Ontario Society of Artists Juried show and Society of Canadian Artists Juried show and Colour and Form Juried show. In early 2018 I was accepted in to Visual Arts Mississauga Juried show.
Currently I am practicing my art at the studio in Alton Mills Arts Center in the Village of Alton.
