“Lowland” is the latest painting in a series of works depicting marshes in the wintertime. The series focuses on a more intimate look at landscape and how ordinary nature around us can really be extraordinary if we just look at it the right way. By keeping the horizon line high, the viewer is invited to a more personal view of their surroundings. Little things like blades of grass or animal tracks in the snow all of a sudden become interesting. I snowshoe a lot and I think that may have something to do with it. You tend to keep your head down when you’re breaking trail.

Peter Leckett

An avid painter for years, landscape painting is one of several hats worn by Mr. Leckett over the years. A scientist by training and a software engineer in practice, he has consistently developed his painting and figurative skills over the years.

An outdoor enthusiast, landscape seemed a natural choice of subject matter and the step to plein air painter a logical progression.

Recently, he has turned to painting full time.
