My interest is with colour. Bright, bold colours. Playing with the lights and the darks of my pallet. Hoping to capture the energy of my subjects and wanting to stir that emotional energy within us all. I paint primary in water-soluble oil paints on canvas and occasionally on board. Painting in oils gives my florals a depth and allows me to capture the life and warmth of my subjects. I work in several thin layers using both transparent and opaque paints. Letting each layer dry throughly before layering with more paint. With each new layer comes the refinement of the painting, always evolving until it is finished. Careful planning while creating the negative spaces in my paintings as it balances and emphasis the beauty of the colours and subject. Keeping some edges sharp and crisp while burring and defusing others all while to creating that energy that captivated me to my subject.

MONICA ORRLING sca osa

Monica Orrling is an artist that is pursuing her passion for fine art. Monica recently changed career paths to paint full time, she lives in Mississauga, Ontario.

Graduating from an Interior Design program in 1989, Monica worked for many years in the Interim Design industry in Toronto and most recently in the office furniture design field. Monica works primarily in oils and watercolours. Using depth of colour she captures the intensity of her subjects. Most recently she has been focusing on bold, large, colourful florals in oils and letting her love of nature to guide her with her watercolours. With depth of layering, vibrant colours and translucent paints she creates flow and movement within her paintings.

Although primarily self taught, Monica’s greatest influence in her art career is her father who has been painting for many years. Watching and learning throughout the years has allowed her to gain valuable knowledge as an artist. She also participates in workshops by other influential painters to help continue her growth.
