Awards
The
Ethel Raicus Award 2009
Ethel Raicus, OSA, was an artist and a writer who left
a legacy to the Society to fund an annual award to a student
of her alma mater, Central Technical School in Toronto.
This year's award is presented to Monica Plant for her drawing "Orbis".
The Cleeve Horne Award
Cleeve Horne, OC, RCA, OSA, was President from 1942-52, and remained an active and involved member until close to his death in 1998. As a distinguished portrait artist, he was commissioned to paint the official portraits of several of our Prime Ministers and Lieutenant-Governors. His paintings and sculptures are prized by many collectors.
He left a bequest to the OSA which funds a biennial award to a public gallery in Ontario for the purchase of a work by an emerging artist. Since its inception, the award has been made to the Varley Gallery, the Tom Thomson Gallery, the Woodstock Art Gallery, and is being given this year to Gallery Stratford.

The Archive Project
Looking for information about an artist?
The OSA has created this online archive from
the records of the society. The archive includes an historical database
of all the Society's exhibition catalogues dating back more than 100
years. The archive also contains the OSA's chronology starting with
the OSA founding in 1872 and containing photographs, documentation and
the annual reports. This chronology not only features the history of
the OSA it also provides insight into the early history of the arts
in Ontario and in the broader context of Canada.
